Thanks for the input. We have a half a mile lane from the house to the gravel road. It just makes me mad that some kids have nothing better to do than something like bash mailbox's. Esspesially right now when there are kids their own age overseas dieing to make someone's life better. If they want to take out their aggresions on something they could do it in alot more constructive way.

Just make yourself a springtime project. Saw a nice mailbox made of brick once....prety good looking, and I suppose it's a little more than vandal proof. Brick pillar two bricks wider than a metal box. Build it up, and arch a layer of brick over where the box goes into it. Once the morter is set, just slide the box in, and screw into the back to hold it in. Pored solid in the middle, should beat a bumper...anyone sues you, ask what they expected? Nothing is hidden, they just ran into a brick pillar.

Tell the kids to use golf clubs, in Lincon Ne awhile back, kids were smashing mailboxes , the kid in front hit a box the head busted off the club and hit the kid in back seat in the head and killed him,, mailbox smashing slowed a bit after that,,,

Been going on for years. Have had several of my own knocked over through the years. The worst part is, if you try to stop them, you might get in trouble yourself if you can believe that. I knew of a neighbor that having gotten fed up with the whole mess burried solid steel post about 4 1/2 feet down in concrete. Mounted solid 1/4 inch mailbox to post. When kids ran over it, wrecked the car injured the passengers and he go sued. I always keep a cheap plastic spare around. I'm guessing its been a past time since before cars were around. Just a fact of life.

I know I probably should not be telling you guys this, but I am gooing too any way....I also lived back a long lane(0.9 mi).....This was back about 1976,four wheel drive trucks was becoming the rage for the teenagers..... they would go around with a chain....if your house was far enough back they would pull box, post and all....take it with them..... after the third $30 ex-large box and post, not to mention the work.....I got madder than HE**..... I laid in wait with a 45-70 cal.rolling block rifle....while they were at the back hooking onto my mail box I put one through the engine block of the new truck....The next day there was oil and anti-freeze,all over the road..... no more mail box problems..... ..

Maybe they thought your mailbox was a raghead. LOL Prob'ly not. Some kids have too much time on their hands and not enough supervision.

I have to agree. Too much free time, too much money, too little responsiblity, too little supervision.

OK Guys, lets not bash on the kids any more. Has it occurred to you that they have PARENTS. Maybe the parents should take more responsibility for their kids. (-: You know, like going fishing with them or working on antique tractors or something educational. I don't just preach. I practice what I preach.
