Hi Bob, Your HVLP "systems" are two basic choices, an air compressor powered gun which will work with any compressor and a dedicated turbine powered gun. The turbine system is the several hundred dollar option that will give the least bounce-back with lower pressure. It's also independent of an air compressor, extremely portable. I bought a turbine system sold by Tip, made at the time by Apollo, IIRC. A friend criticized me, telling me I'd never recover the cost through product savings. That wasn't the point. I wanted the best work environment I could get. It was worth the money- to me. I spoke with Campbell Hausfield about their inexpensive turbine setup and they didn't think it was what I was looking for, furniture quality spraying. My wife's van also came out great. Cleanup with any of these guns will be easy and require minimal solvent. There's a little relearning of spray technique if you're good with a normal air gun as I was. All guns, HVLP or not, have several adjustments that need to be made to get a proper spray pattern and product application. Your best bet there is to find somebody local who can show you. Not rocket science. I leave solvent in my gun and my turbine sitting on a shelf where I normally spray. It'll take me maybe 2 minutes to get the right viscosity product in my gun and be spraying. It's really no big deal. I haven't bought a spray can in years. This list has had many favorable comments on Harbor Freight guns if you're thinking lowest cost. I tried a gravity-feed (tank on top) once and didn't like it. Probably only because I was used to the other style. I also tend to spray enough to want over a pint of product in the gun. You said small parts so I gather you'd have no application for a paint pot, an option for larger volume users. Good luck with your decision, you're overdue!
