Loose wheel?

I have an M Farmall that I use for cutting and raking hay. My problem is when I mow about 20 acres with it and keep pivoting at the corners the right wheel starts working its way out on the axle. I have tightened and retightend the bolts that hold the collars on the axle. ( I mean really tight!) Still the wheel eventually works it way out. The bolts still seem tight when I check them. I then loosen them and move the wheel back in starting the whole process again. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Devin

You can loosen up the wheel hub and clean everything clean use sandpaper or emery cloth, no rust particales what ever, clean the bolts good and try that. they work loose with the small rust particales between the hub and axle. just my experence.

I have sceen where folks have cut shims and wraped around half of the axel. But first take the wedge block out and run a tap through the holes and also clean up the bolts real good lubricate well and then tighten. It is true a lose wheel will wear but maybe you will catch it before you need a diferent wheel or wedge.

Is there just one bolt to tighten? If so can you drill and tap a hole at 90 degrees? I have done this to pulleys and sprockets in the past and they are still holding. Worth a try!!

Once a wheel gets loose, it will wear out the hub if not retightened soon enough. The cast portion of the wheel has worn, probably in a scalloped way, so when you tighten it, very little cast is drawn tight to the axle shaft. New wheel is likely in order. Simply went too long being loose.
