From time to time I find myself fabricating a small part or two that would do best if case hardened. To that end I am looking for a small quantity of the compound called Kasenite to keep on hand. Anyone know of a source? Thanks in advance.

EC

I found it listed at MSCdirect.com
It is spelled Kasenit.

I doubt you'll find any Kasenite for sale. It contains cyanide, and I think is no longer sold. You might ask a local machine shop but I'd follow up with T_Bone's suggestion.

Kasenit (yes correctly spelled KASENIT) is readily available from all the major metal working tool suppliers such as MSC, Enco, and many, many more.

T Bone's idea is a good one, and if you don't have a catalog from them you should. Anyway, I think MSC has it.

Hi EC,

You might try a gun part supply company.

A very good book on the subject is

Advanced Gunsmithing
WF Vickery

He explains alot of the "old" methods of metal treatment that are simple homeshop methods.
