Hi, Ken. All of the other replies are right in that they can cause popping of your torch. However, Thurlow touched on what I have found to be the most common cause of persistant popping, a poor seal between torch and tip. Sometimes this can be caused by a bit of dirt between the surfaces and a simple clean will solve the problem. Other times, one face or the other, or both, will be damaged and repairs/re-seating will be needed. Remove the tip from the torch, clean it with a clean rag, amking sure that no lint is left behind and inspect both the seal ring on the tip and the seat in the torch very carefully for any signs of damage. If there is MINOR damage, you can sometimes repair it yourself by using a TINY amount of valve grinding paste applied to the seal ring on the tip and rotating the tip against the seat with the retaining nut screwed in far enough to ensure that the tip is held true to the seat. The one BIG 'must' about using this method is that have to be sure that ALL the valve grinding paste is removed before using the torch again. Cotton tips or buds, the little cotton balls on sticks, are handy for this. This is also the reason for the emphasis on the 'TINY' above. The less valve grinding paste you use, the less it will spread. You may prefer to invest in a re-seating tool or take the torch to your local service center. Hope this helps. You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.
