Does anyone make a GOOD smap ring plier set. the only ones I have seen are a piece of junk. They may work on a small ring but the larger ones just bend the tips or will not open the ring far enough to install or remove...
Thanks Carol

I personally have a SNAP-ON but MAC, MATCO and NAPA HAVE A GOOD SET(they usally have LISLE,K-D make there tools) it pays to buy a better set. I have several CRAFTSMAN tools that have been discontinued. (i have a CRAFTSMAN 12inch two jaw gear puller that broke the yoke)they dont supply one this size anymore so much for the life time warranty.

You can get decent replacement snap ring TIPS at Sears to use in the small cheap handles. BUT if you have large rings, you need large handles, which are not available cheap. Try a used tool store if you want a quality set. With all the guys loosing their jobs now, some will need to sell their tools to make ends meet.

As was stated, Snap-on and Mac both make excellent sets (although I'm not sure they're not both made by K-D) that will cover about any type of snap-rign you're likely to encounter. Snap-rings are definitely one of those items that do require the proper tool, as using any other than the proper tool usually results in busted knuckles, broken parts or general aggravation. Well worth the money for the good ones. There's good tools and cheap tools, but there's no such thing as a good cheap tool.

Channel Lock also makes a decent one. Don't know the price. Can be switched back and forth for "inner" or "outer" rings.

I've been frustrated by cheapo snapring pliers for years. A friend let me borrow his Snap-on Kit, and as soon as I returned it, I ordered one of my own. Three handles in three sizes, all three sets switch between "innie" and "outie" mode at the switch of a button, a full set of tips for each set.

Good, rugged, functional, and not horribly expensive at about $80 for the set as I recall. I can get a model number for you when I get home if you need it.
