How do i take care of the fish eye, I am using 7014 rod, in mild steel, I get it when I stop the arc,I am going with DC reverse , + doesn't seem to make a differnce ,either does ac thanks Greg

Make sure your amperage setting is not too high. Also be sure the electrode is fresh. If that doesn't correct the problem, just pause briefly before breaking the arc. The undercut you currently experience is a micro crack waiting to expand.

Fred's comment should work fine however you may create an unwanted builup when you do that. The textbook method (at least where I learned) is to pause to allow the puddle to fill, then shorten the arc and briskly move the electrode off sideways.

Greg, I have found that if I move back up over the weld that I just created before breaking the arc I eliminate it some. Try and see if it works for you. Fred
