Ive been looking at the Millermatic 250 and wonder any others out there good and maybe
cheaper. I would need spool feeder for aluminum.

I love my 250 dearly, but to run aluminum, I went to a short Bernard gun running 3/64ths wire. Any longer gun, any smaller ALU wire, had jam problems in both the orig. Miller gun and the Tweco that replaced it. 3/64ths rarely has a prob, other than thickness of material.Fred

The Millermatic 250 is a good all around wire feeder. You don't necessarily need a spooler to run Aluminum. You can change the liner in the gun and run Argon and get a satisfactory weld. I do a lot of Aluminum and don't use a wire feeder. I have a 20 year old Hobart 250 amp AC/DC with a high frequency unit built in. A 200 amp air cooled Tig torch and 1/8 Tungsten works good for all my production. Then if you want to weld thinner stock just reduce your current and tungsten size. I weld .065" to .375" tubing and bar stock. Also, if you need to do some stainless you just select DC reverse, shut off the high freq. unit, sharpen your tungsten and go for it. You can sometimes find similar units (other brands)used for around $1000.00 to $1500.00 depending on your location.
