The engine in my 1990 GMC 2500 is close to breathing it's last due to the previous owner, having driven friend's with the Vortec I was wondering if they are a straight across swap or is everything different, I am especially concerned about the EFI as this is voodoo to me

You do not need a new computer. Just get Vortec manifold for TBI and Vortec heads with spring upgrade. Get new cam and new chip from Jet Performance at jetchip.com. They also have upgraded TBIs. Go to SDPC2000.com. Scoggins-Dickey Parts Center has everything you need. They can build a Vortec TBI long block for you. But, if you really want to make some power just get AFR heads. They cost more but you can get them for your truck and they flow better than anything out there. You can get a block kit from Performance Automotive Warehouse, Jet chip for your computer, Jet TBI, and go with the AFR heads. All smog legal with cam from Crane or Comp Cams and it will smoke. I have a plottd out a set up for my 1989 GMC 2500 that will blow your friend's truck out. You will keep your truck "stock" and the TBI is a very reliable system.

You can go to the above site and do a search. This is hands down the best Chevy/GMC Truck forum on the web.

THIS CAN BE DONE WITH YOU CURRENT COMPUTER(ECM)! What I have done/in the process of doing, on my 93 Chevy truck..... .. Caprice crate engine-a little more compression and stronger bottom end than the stock truck engine. Available at paceparts.com for under $1700. Then swap out the cam with something a little more truck friendly. Swap the heads too with the Vortech heads. You will have to get a different intake manifold as well to fit the Vortech heads, you can either get the one from GM where your Throttle body bolts right on, or for better breathing you can get a carberator type intake and an adapter for you throttle body. If you need to keep your EGR valve for emmision purposes, you will need the GM intake and the EGR kit, if not, simply do away with the EGR equipment and when all is said and done, have the egr also removed from the computer programming. This should all be good for 50+ horsepower,75ft-lbs Torque, and better gas milage too. If this all seems crazy, its not as bad as it first comes off. Getting a new chip is as easy as plugging in some type of computer scanner and sending the values to someone to make you a new chip. Hope this all helps, Jim

You will need a different computer and wiring harness. There are a number of companies making wiring harnesses. Turbo City is one source, and I have found them to be good to work with on the phone.

So with their hardware you could put a Vortec in a 19xx anything (F-100? Impala? Fury II) as long as it's got a battery.....right? P.S. For the links to show up you have type in the whole 9 yards (http://www..... ..... .blah, blah, blah.com or whatever). Oh, you have to give it a title also! Do one then click ''Submit Follow Up'. When you get to 'Preview your post' try opening your link in a new window before you click 'Post Followup' to see if it works. Can you tell I've had my share of misfires?

You need to buy the april 2003 of sport truck mag. In it is a complete breakdown on a vortec swap. It's alot easier than you think.
