Sorry for this off subject post. I don't know where else to go with this. We need a crew cab truck. Can't afford a new one (2 boys in diapers, etc.) and am looking at diesels with 4X4 and manual transmissions. Got any advice or experiences to share with me? Looking at the early 90's or so. Thanks- Mike D.

That's what I got, had to get a new one to get what I wanted. '01 Ram 2500, Cummins, 5 speed, extra heavy suspension, quad cab, a/c, nothing else, didn't even want a radio but it was standard. Wound up going 60 miles and passing 4 dealers that just had "pretty trucks". Drove it home for 27,100 plus tax; they knocked trade in book off that for my Dakota. No complaints, in and out in under 2 hrs; had over 40 new Dodge diesels on the lot.

Seems like nobody wants a manual anymore. I bought my Ford new, the dealer tried to talk me out of ordering the manual, says it has less resale value.

Hi Scott,

Tell me, I ordered my 2K2, F350,DRW, PSD, 6spd, crew cab, 3:73, 4wd and the dealer told me I'd best take it or he could never sell it. I can't believe that people no longer buy the 6spd. Geezs a slush bucket wouldn't have lasted me no time at all!!!

I have a 93 F-350 reg cab and really like it, it has 175000 miles, I have spent alot on upkeep though, injectors, injector pump, starter, basket full of glow plugs, front diff, brakes twice, and now need transmisson; If you buy one used be carefull, you might buy it twice; I too would strongly consider new;

Look on autotrader.com. That's where I found my F-250. If you don't mind driving further than across town, you can find lots of trucks. One good site to visit for info on Ford trucks with diesels is TheDieselStop.com. Punch here:

Really, really urge you to consider new diesels. I looked for 8 years and never did find one. Seemed like even stuff with 200,000 miles was $10,000. Finally decided to bite the bullet and got a new one. Got an '01 Dodge for 27K. With the rebates they are still that or less. Know where you are coming from about having them in diapers, that's where I was.
