I have a 1947 9N. With the front loader locked in the up position I could never get the 3 pt. hitch to stay in a fixed position. It kept dropping. The front end loader did not seem to have any problem just the 3 pt hitch. Now both will not function at all. What might be the best way of isolating this type of problem?

Sounds like either the safety check valve or the control vavle and seat are worn or the rings in the hydraulic cyl are worn. To check the valves and cyl. just take of the right inspection cover and with the tractor running operate the postion lever to lift about 300 Lbs on the 3 pt hitch. Observe to see if there is more than a drop or two of fluid comming from the hyd cyl and look for bubbles comming to the surface of the hyd fluid from the rear of the pump area. Keep hands and finners out of the inspection port! I am not very familiar with the loader hydro system but if it runs off the same pump the 3 pt system does im sure it is hard on it.
