Picked up a 3-pack of strap wrenches, 2 small and 1 large. My wife glommed onto the two small ones to use to open jars - they work great for her. I used the large one last week to hold a pulley while I unbolted the fan hub. These wrenches do have their uses.

Made a strap wrench out of some seatbelt strap or webbing an a length of square tube (3/8 inch ID) for taking off oil filters. Pop rivited the strap to the sq. tube. Make the strap loop long enough so's you have a couple of wraps on the sq. tube before the strap tightens on the filter. Use a 3/8" ratchet for a handle. Works pretty good and you can make adaptations of this idea for different applications.

I bought a couple of these in a set but the ones I bought have the rubber straps. The ones I remember using years ago had a webbed canvas style of strap and they worked great. These new rubber ones are totally crappy and I wish I had kept my bill and tried them out right away instead of a year later. They just don't seem to have any strength.

Givin a lot of thought about buying me a couple. They look like they would be useful. Being a mizer I look for the positive feed back on items like that. Now it looks like they need to be on my buy list. B.Day and Xmas is to far away.

Dick - You're setting a dangerous precident by allowing a wife to take two thirds of your new tools! What if our wives find out? What if our wives want into our shops to claim their "fair Share"? This could be the end of our world as we know it..... ....
