I have always used oil labeled as air tool oil. But i have read that you can use other types of oil.. What do you use?? And also, what is the ideal rpm for a compressor pump to run?? I always heard about 8-900 rpms??

Thanks again Chris Smith

I have been told never to use a detergent oil as it can break down your O- Rings, I usualy use the lighest weight I can find. We use nail guns etc all day long and never had any problems. I one time had a guy working for me dump 10-30 in a few of the nailers by mistake, 3 guns took the O- Rings out in a week or so- 2 others it did not effect at all. I figure down time and the little cost factor we usualy attempt to use the specified oil when ever possible.

I use ATF oil. My son-in-law is a mechanic and he says in the shop that's what they use. It's cheaper and a very good lubricant and good cleaner also.

I like Marvel Mystery Oil mixed with about 1/3 kerosene. It flows quicker and cleans better.

I've used ATF (not real particular of which one) for almost 30 years with good results. Some people prefer Marvel Mystery Oil. Dave

"air tool oil" is just 10 weight light duty oil, any light oil of that viscosity would be ok. I have even used a hefty dose of wd-40 in a pinch but would not reccomend it on a regular basis as its lubricating properties are not long lived.
