A great aluminum cleaner is "Zepalume" made by ZEP. You can find it at heavy truck parts stores like "Fleetpride" Good luck, Cliff

Hey Earl,
I own a Peterbilt log truck with lots of aluminum...cowlings, fuel tanks, wheels, etc. Zepalum for a easy intial cleaning, for a semi-mirror finish use brillo pads and elbow grease. For a as new mirror finish use a 3000 RPM buffer with red rouge compound. Face mask is a must, or you will be covered in black residue.
Good Luck, Cliff

I used to rent a carb cleaner from safety kleen that agitated real well. It was like a 15 gallon drum with a air motor on top, kind of like a washing machine. Carbs, Alternator, and mag housings would come out looking like new. I always saved some of the old chemical for heads and blocks and stuff. Worked great, pretty powerful, and made you smell like carb cleaner for days!

Depends on how corroded it is. Light corrosion and going to shine it up I use Simichrome (from my motorcycle days) and then maybe buff it out on a wheel. Real bad and I will use a weak acid (toilet bowl cleaner) first, or possibly just a wire wheel. You might check out the local semi truck wash, they normally do acid bath washes on the aluminum trailers. See what they use.
Normal disclaimers and safety cautions apply. :^)
