I have a 6" Bench Grinder. I tried installing wire wheels on one of the arbors, however, ALL of them cause the grinder to vibrate extremly.

I have tried 3 different brands, however, they all do the same thing.

Any ideas.

In response to the 4 replies received.

1. Grinder runs perfectly with stone wheels.
2. Spindles are perfect (Absolutely no bends).
3. Wire wheel holes are the same size as arbor ½"
4. There are NO businigs missing.

The wheels fit perfectly on the spindel, but it seems as though the wheels aren't balanced correctly.

I tried a 5" wire wheel and it runs much smoother, however, I need a 6". As I mentioned before, I tried (3) different wheels, each a different brand, and they all vibrated the same, consequently, I felt there must be some other answer, other than out of balanced.

Could I be that unlucky, to get 3 bad wheels????

If the motor will handle it and there is room for the end cover, put two wheels together on the arbor. I sometimes use as many as three. Joe

Be sure to check the rpm range of the wheel your installing, and some wheels are directional. If this doesn't help then I'm out of answers. Mine vibrates a little more with wire wheels, but I use the twisted steel course wires.

Might want to try running it without the brushes or wheel on the end that your are planning to use the brushes on. It may be the wheel that you are leaving on instead of the brushes.

Just a thought, but are you sure you bought one with the right size arbor? Sounds like something I might do. If you have one with a bigger hole in the middle, it would be impossible to get the wheel to sit on the arbor centered perfectly and would vibrate like that. Just my .02.

Does it vibrate with a std grinding wheel on the same arbor? Haven't had problems with wire wheels, they do sound and act different on the grinder but shouldn't vibrate. What I'm wondering is could your arbor be bent? A couple thousands will make a large difference.
