Got that, but I'm not building rockets, and don't have the $ nor space for dedicated machines. So I guess it boils down to: Are these toys or what?

In reality it depends on what you want to do. When I got my first lathe I was in to building guns. My main concern was spindle hole size and distance between centers (I was using barrel blanks) because I need to cut threads/chambers and taper the barrels. I have a 12 swing so I can't turn brake drums. I also have a drill/milling machine. With this I can do hubs and rotors. Its all in the set up. 90% of machine work is in the set up. If the machine you are looking for will meet your needs, (present and future) then go for it. Only you know what your needs are.

I am not familiar with this machine. However the general opinion among those with experience is that these combination machines are a compromise. Them may work for light work/small jobs, but are nothing like having seperate dedicated tools.
