Does any one have any ideas on building an all purpose welding jig that could be used to hold various welding products? It would need to be able to tilt to different positions and also maybe have a small turn table. I am presently building a number of deer stands. A couple of the parts are about 2' square and, and it would be nice if I could attach the part and then rotate and also be able to tilt to make it easier to get correct weld positions. I would like to build something for this project and then I would have it for future projects if it would not be too cumbersome to store. Maybe it could clamp in the vise.

Another word for this would be positioner. I built one years ago out of a front hub from a '52 Chevy car. I welded the kingpin area to a post that had a plate that sat on the floor. The wheel is just as it sat on the car, vertical. I set up the brake pedal and a master cylinder on the floor plate with levers to reverse the action, so that stepping on the pedal releases the brake. A spring keeps the brake on the rest of the time. You can weld a clamp or whatever to the wheel to hold your work which can be rotated to wherever you desire and will stay there when you take your foot off the pedal. I welded a piece of highway signpost tube across the wheel with the ends sticking out (the kind that has holes every inch). I've made different fixtures on the next size larger tube that I can slip on and secure with a bolt. The uses are endless. Hope this helps.

Hi Paul,

A piece of 3/4" pipe fits inside a 1" pipe (tight) and a 1-1/2" pipe fits inside a 2" pipe without grinding.

Use a piece of 1/4" plate for a jig plate back. Weld the inside pipe to the center of the back of the jig plate.

Make another 1/4" plate for the holder (fits in vise, clamped to the welding bench or tack welded) with the outside pipe welded to that. Drill two holes into the pipe and weld nuts over the holes. Take two bolts and weld 1/4" x 1-1/2" long, rod on head of them for large wing bolts. Two required so the weight of the fab piece won't cause the bolts to slip when hand tighten.

That would rotate 360*
