I just bought some land with nearly 10 acres of overgrowth. Lots of 2" to 6" trees - too big to brush hog and hard to chainsaw. Has anyone used what is called a "tree shear". It's two blades that cut the tree at ground level powered by a hyudraulic cylinder pushing them together. Kinda like large scissors. Would mount to my 3-point, but are also made for skid-steers. Wondering if they are worth the money - around $2100.

THey widened the state highway here considerably and took out a lot of trees with a large one. IT was prety fast, but the front of the cab had a very thick lexan window in it to protect the operator. It looks like the kind of thing you could get in a LOT of trouble with in a hurry.

I'd think twice about using one on 10 acres unless I had some assistance from an experienced operator.

Just my opinion. The thing scared me just lookin' at it.

Probably best to rent one on a skidsteer. Must more visability, and you can grab and move the cut trees to the pile for burning. My nephew cleared about 5 acres of mesquites this way. The trees were about 4 or 5 inch.
