Getting started into tig.I have limited experience in stick and oxy/aceylene. My torch is a Rigid ck17 with a number7 cup. My power source is a miller thunder bolt machine. How big can I weld, how small can I weld? Got the torch cheap and don't know much about it. Thanks in advance.

Hi Dbird,

Never seen a Rigid torch but 100amps with a air cooled torch is hot on the hand. The Thunderbolt XL is rated for 65a DC at 100% duty cycle and use DCEN. Do a search on here about welding as there is alot of good info.

Multi-pass is unlimited in thickness. Read my post on the second/third page about Tig with the Thunderbolt XL and how to make it go lower amperage than the 30amps it's rated at then you can weld very thin gauge SM.

You'll need a cover gas and flow meter, Argon works well for most metals and 75%AR/25%HE would cover all the common metals.

Do some research on the website and post back on questions you need to ask.
