I was watching the Log cutting deal on TV the other day and watch them use a 2 man chain saw with a 350 chevy driving it. Cut the heck out of that log. I think it took just a couple of seconds. With a chain saw that big and heavy, a couple of seconds is about as long as 2 guys would want to hold one of those! It was awesome though.

I gave a Poulan model 52 to our county to display in a water wheel driven grist mill. I had over 40 hours in glass beading the all aluminum housing, and clearcoating , disassembly, and reassembly. Located at Murrys'Mill near town of Catawba in Catawba County, North CArolina.

Worked in the chain saw repair business in the 50's and 60's. Don't have any now, the last one I knew of being used belonged to the street dept. of the City of Sandersville,Georgia,it was a McCulloch model 299 with a 6' bow on it, real mankiller!About every 2 or 3 years they used to drag it to the shop for us to get it cranked when they needed to cut a really big tree down. They disappeared from the scene around this part of the country many years ago. At one time there were a lot of different makers. McCulloch, Mall (owned by Remington Arms Co.) Poulan. there was also the Mercury Disston; Kiekhafer-Mercury(Outboard Motor Co) made the engine and Disston made the saw. Even saw a 3 phase electric one for using around a sawmill once. There was quite a trick to running one, the guy on the engine end had it made, the one on the other end did most of the work. The lightweight one man saws put them out to pasture when they came on the scene in the late 1950's. They were real brutes to run. Gene Davis

I'll bet it's cold there in Finland right now. I don't know of any old chain saws. I did have an old one about 30 years ago, but I couldn't get parts for it, it was a McCulloch. Was it for a collection, or did your department in the university need it? Did it have to be old, or could it be later model? How old does it have to be?
