Acetyline tanks are filled with either balsa wood, charcoal, ground up corn cobs and I think they use some type of concrete also. They fill the tanks about 40% with acetone. The filler mat'l (wood, corncobs, or whatever) absorbs the acetone. When they start filling with acetyline, the acetone absorbs the acetyline. Reason for this is acetyline becomes self-explosive at 29.4 psi. If you drain enough acetone out of your tank. The acetone being a liquid and the acetyline being a gas, they can seperate. If its over 29.4 psi. KABOOM...good-by.

Acetylene tanks are supposed to be stood upright for 24 hours prior to use, if they are "layed on side".

Acetylene is delivered as a gas in solution with a liquid, kind of like carbonated beverages. That's why the pressure is so much lower than the oxygen tank, within which the oxygen is stored as a (heavily) compressed gas.

Standing the tank back up allows the liquid to settle back to the bottom, and any foam to subside. You may have gottom some of the liquid into your torch...
