Anybody know where I can get a good TOUGH leather apron? Or even just the leather to make one? Been looking around, and all that I find for sale are flimsy thin ones. I need something thicker than welders leathers, this is for foundry work. I know that leather = $$$, but it doesn't have to be pretty, just thick.

The thickest tanned leather you will find available is at a saddle makers shop. You may have one custom made to your specifications too.

Hi Abused,

You might want to see if you can locate a Tandy leather store, once a Radio Shack company. I've made a few approns for working SM from 10oz (about 3/32" thick) leather. Leather thickness is determined by what it weighs per square foot.

The other ideas are all good, and this idea is a little off the wall, but you can get complete cow hides from larger craft stores.

Take a look at this site for foundry wear. Having worked at a foundry in Muskegon MI I sure don't envy you. That is one tough, hot, noisy, and dirty job!
