Does anybody have the 18V B & D Firestorm combo pack with the drill, circular saw and sawzall? I have been thinking of getting one but am a little leary of the quality. I have a DeWalt 18V drill that I reallllly like but the 18 V DeWalt combo pack is $569 verse the B & D for $189. Is the DeWalt that much better? I sure do need some cordless saws when out and about.

Thanks in advance for the feedback

cordless saws are handy and battery eaters. I recomend the 18 volt DeWalt. I own the 14.4 DeWalt not enough battery life in circular saw ok for sawsall. Have used a friends 18 volt a lot and now leave my 14.4 in case when he is around.

On any battery do not recharge if it is hot!!!!

I have ruined new batteries recharging straight from the circular saw. Drill batteries never seem to get hot enough to be a problem. If you intend to use the saw a lot then get the fancy DeWalt charger, 15 minute. It monitors the batteries and will not charge a hot battery.

Roonfly,

My friend gave a complete Dewalt 18 volt combo set.It has worked good for him untill he needed new batterys. They are $80.00 a piece. So he just bought a Ryobi combo instead. They still work, but not as long.I have heard, but not checked it out that B+D batterys work in some of the Dewalts.Anyway check out what batterys cost before you buy.

You might want to consdier the Ryobi combination pack. Has about the same tools for about the same money as the Firestorm. It was rated a Consumers Report best buy in either the November or December 2002 issue. Here in Northern VA you can buy the Ryobi at Home Depot.

This is my opinion only from previous experiences. I've owned numerous Black & Decker tools and the cordless tools just don't hold up (for me that is). The batteries don't last long per charge or per life. I didn't spent the extra money for the Dewalt, but I did buy a Porter Cable Cordless drill and I've used it for 4.5 years now (real regular use) and it's held up extremely well. I was very skeptical of the PC stuff, but now I would buy another in a heart beat. My PC Drill will stay up with my neighbors Dewalt, and when his batteries go dead, we use mine to finish the job. I put up several RPN metal buildings, so we have several guys with cordless drills out there at the same time, so it's a pretty decent comparison. Please don't take this as a B&D bash, only stating my experiences, others may have had better luck.

I got the B&D combo for Christmas and thus far have been very happy with them, battery dont last long in the sawzall, haven't tried the circular saw yet but would guess it would be about the same, I was looking at the Dewalt combo as well and could not justify the price diff. for occasional use, doesn't B&D make Dewalt's stuff?

Check out the magazine "Fine Homebuilding". They have a report on the 'new' impact drill/drivers. Torque is 3 times that of a standard driver, and they're a lot easier to use. Of course they're more expensive, too. They may have also tested cordless saws, I don't know. I think some of the Firestorm driver/drills have been recalled. Look up Consumer Reports on the net to see if they have the information. I think it was in one of their magazines where I saw it.
