This isn't a "wanted ad". I'm about ready to get a better forklift,Rough-terrian 6,000 lb. striaght mast [not a reach type].Will want diesel won't need a real hi-reach. Figured some of you had,or used at work one and wanted some input about likes-dis likes, types and so on . Color no issue. Can't justify a new one but want a fairly late model that will work, not be worked on. Thanks

I got a Baker, bought new in about 1982, 8000 lb. lift, deutz diesel, reaches around 12', hydrostat drive, glow plugs, this machine really does well all winter, not rough terrain though, you need at least a kaleechi road to operate it on, I've only spent a few hundred on parts for this machine in 20 years, a seal for the mast, which was kinda my fault that I nicked the cylinder, and two tilt cylinder rebuild kits and a couple hyd. hoses, EVERYTHING is metric, don't know the true manufacturer but I'd guess made in Italy, France? Love the air cooled motor, just keep the mice out of it.

Take a look at Mitsubishi lift trucks. Very reasonable on used ones in good condition. I'm not sure of what fuel choices they have off hand but I can tell you from personal experience they are excellent quality and dependable. Checked into a used one a couple years back for a customer; 8K, high clearance, posi-drive, LP, 4500 hrs, serviced and new tires & paint $14,500 with 360* rotating hydraulic clamp included. I think the same size without any attachments was going somewhere around $10k.

On the West coast one like that from the 70s would go for $4500-$6500. Plus tax. Plus shipping. Guessing a late model from the middle 90s will be $10-$15,000 range. I expect a Cat would be more. The weight will be more than a 4" floor can take. The mast will probably be 10-11' high, and have 45* tilt for travel. I have a '72 Champ, rough terrain, 30' mast. It's got a Chrysler slant 6 for power and hydrostatic drive. With the mast down, it's 12' high. But it take lots of room to store, lots of canvas to cover, and lots of room to move it around. I expect at a later date, I'll get a smaller one that can be stored inside the shop.

I bought some Cat forklifts for my employer in the '90's that turned out to be made in England and they were pure crap!
