Generator wiring?

A long time ago I bought a 110V Yamaha EC2800 generator, but someone had ripped out the control box and cut the wires. The thing's been sitting in my shop for years and now it needs to earn its keep. Problem is, I don't know what all the wires coming out of the genny connect to. The local Yammie dealer told me to buy a new generator from them. Big help.

Anyway, the main power and ground wires are easy enough to spot, but then there are two green and one yellow coming out of the stator. I suppose the greens go to the capacitor, per Yamaha standards. So, anyone know what that is yellow for? I'm one wire away from getting this puppy going!

Thanks

Thanks for the help, and everything else. Finally found a couple of nice out-of-state dealers who sent shematics. The yellow wire is a tap off the main power winding and powers a pilot light. Problem solved.

The generator runs fine and all the windings check out, so there's almost no chance it won't work once I get the cap I need. Everything else's off the shelf stuff.

While small generator cost a chunk of cash, they are for all intents and purposes disposable when any significant problem occurs. After the cost of parts and labour all you have left is a used generator without a warrenty that cost almost as much as a new one.The shop is tired of complants, lawsuits and cranky customers. The local dealers are likely bent and twisted after dozens of customers balking at the bill.Worse yet the generator likely runs only a few hours before failing again. For daily use get a diesel Yanmar, moderate use a Honda and for occasional use a cast iron engined Coleman.

I guess it all depends on the dealer. Here in Corpus, they are the same way. I've owned 3 Yamahas and swore I'd never buy another one because of the sorry support. They always discontinue parts way before anyone else does, and so far, they all (dealers) seem to have some sort of attitude. I called to order an "Ignition Coil" the other day for my sisters 4 wheeler. The parts man told me there were no such parts in their book call "Ignition Coil". I told him it was in my Service Manual and it was called an Ignition coil, it was the freaking coil that fired the spark plug. So I had my sister take the old coil there and order one. She called me up and stated it's called an Ignitor Coil. I agreed that was probably it. $100 bucks to order it, 2 weeks later, I get a charge coil. They would not budge on my $100 bucks!!! and still stated there is no such animal as an ignition coil. Darn, you figure these folks would know the common terminology. I think they have a school for jerks you have to complete before going to work for a Yamaha dealer.

I buy Honda now, and my experiences are much better. Parts cost way too much for Honda and such items as the gas tanks, and mufflers don't seem to last very long in commercial outside service, but at least they call a gas tank a freaking gas tank! My personal Honda have held up great and I love the 1 or 2 pulls to start them, even after being idle all winter.

Junk it!!!! there is some reason that they tore out these wires . THEY had problems. You can find out where every wire goes, spend money and time, then find out something major is wrong.
My 2 cents worth.

I agree! If I were going to do that to a machine, it would be because I had so much bad luck with it I wouldnt want anyone else to be jinxed by it.

I don't know if it's the truth, but the guy I bought it from explained the missing controls. Something about the actual owner (a fellow who died) hard wiring it to some elaborate electric system in his house.

It's really not a problem. Once I know the wiring I just have to hook up an outlet, breaker, and capacitor. I have all those so it's not like I'm losing any more money if it doesn't work.

Yamaha is now up to the EH prefix for consumer generators.
They "do not have any generator tech manuals for sale on line at this time". Call Customer Service 1-800-962-7926 (southern Ca.)to see if they have one. If they do you can complain about the dealer's attitude.

You might try checking with a local elec shop they maybe able to help out. Even if it cost a couple of bucks to have them repair you still would be money ahead

The only generator place I've gotten to around here happens to be a Yamaha dealer. They wouldn't open their books, answer my question, or even try to look at it. No one else I've found has heard of this model.
