I was told that i could increase the cranking power to these old 6 volt systems by putting in a resistor in the wire between the switch and the coil. apparently the starter and generator will be ok. Will this work? If so what kind of resistor? Thanks ... Greenfrog(old CB handle)

I have been using a 12 volt battery to start my DC,(magneto). A couple of weeks ago, when I hit the starter switch it did nothing but grind. I pulled the starter, and found the starter nose broken and the ring gear chewed up. I had just finished reading a post by Lee Forbrush stating that this would probably happen if you use a 12 volt battery to start a six volt Case. Looks like he was right.
