Hi again everyone , another question here. For years , as I understand it , the higher the number , the hotter the plug. I have a neighbor who is trying to tell me that Champion spark plugs(which I'm not fond of) now go the other way. The hotter the plug , the lower the number. He was told that at the auto parts. Another neighbor backs him up. What benefit would this change give champion? I still don't believe it. Does anyone know of a web site where I can check this out. Has anyone here herd of such a change? Thanks , Scott

Hi Scott, I always thought that the length of the positive electrode protruding from the insulator determined the heat range of a plug. In other words having two plugs with equal length electrodes, the one with the shortest insulator is the hotter plug.....or is that the colder plug??....Getting old ain't all that much fun. Joe

Joe, I believe the shorter the insulator the colder the plug.

Heck, could you share the info with all of us? I was under the impression a D16 was hotter than a D14, hope I don't have it backwards as well....

The D series plug numbers increase with heat range, ie a D16 is hotter than a D14. Looked at auto plugs on their web site -- those numbers make no sense to me.
