I am looking to buy a 110v wire feed welder and was wondering if the Campbell Hausfeld flux core are any good. I will be welding tubing and light sheet metal. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Im a welder by trade and love my little Campbell Hausfeild Wire welder. It takes a while to get used to. I have a Miller stick welder and a Millermatic 35 wire welder and use them all three. I like the Campbells waranty is the same as the Lincoln and Comes with the Gas kit i run both flux and solid wire. Its handy to take out on jobs to weld holes in loader mufflers and things like that where too thin of metal is a problem and removing the part is too much down time. One dislike is the wire is always live.

Like others have stated you get what you pay for. That said I like mine and have used it on many ocassions to repair light things. Lots of splatter and I'm told this could be corrected by using a gas sheild and solid core wire, but have never tried it that way. Duty cycle is low but It does run on 110V and this is handy to me as I can string out some #12 extention cord and weld out away from things. I really would like a gasoline powered welder and one day I'll get one but until then I like what my CH wire feed can do.Good Luck.

I started with a 90 amp, 4 heat, gas mig welder. The guy advertised it as a Miller because it was blue, asked $40. We found it to be an off brand so I got it for $25, with 20 cu. ft. tank & regulator. I used it a few times to do 1/8" x1" strip to 2'x2'x 3/32" plate, but it just doesn't have enough heat. Then I went the other way and got a 240 amp unit. It works great. I think 135 amps would be the least to get, gas & solid wire cost about the same as flux core, and its much more useful. (Don't forget that you need 240 v power.)

I've known many folks who have welded up entire race cars and such with Campbell hausfeld welders. They can be a perfectly fine machine. Light on duty cycle usually, but with a cooling fan the duty cycle is greatly extended.

That said, the little 110 flux wire machine is't particularly usefull in many folks opinion. It's just too light. You end up outgrowing it in a very short time. The dedicated flux core units leave you wanting solid wire and a gas bottle (unless you do a lot of field work). These machines don't upgrade to it.

The correct answer is no!Chi-com welders are junk.If you don't have the money for a decent american welder buy a beat up pile out of the paper. If the clunker in the paper welds at all.it will be ten times the welder the cambell hausfeld is.I will buy certain chi-com stuff but a welder is not one of them. There is no free lunch on welders. You get what you pay for, most times. That included the cambell hausfeld.I have lots more reasons to not buy one,but why bore you?

It probably has a low duty cycle, which weld just a little bit and then wait a while. What is the current ?

Headquartered in Harrison, Ohio for more than 165 Years, Campbell Hausfeld offers the best value in power tools. You don't stay in business by selling junk to tool guys.

Campbell Hausfeld welders have the best warranty in the business.

As was stated correctly in the earlier responses, if you want to weld thin materials, sheet metal, less than 18 Gauge, you will want a MIG welder with a gas bottle. If you want to weld thicker than 3/16" steel, then you will need a 230-Volt machine. If you weld just between 18 Gauge and 1/8" then just about any 115 Volt machine will do the job.

If you would like to know more about Campbell Hausfeld welders, or any Campbell Hausfeld products, just send me an e-mail, and I'd be happy to answer your question and/or send you a catalog.
