I would like to say THANKS to all for your input!
I do appreciate it!

Im just a weekend warrior, DIYer but I do a half-a-ton of stuff, usually cuz I really can't afford to pay for labor. I needed something to create mouldings/baseboards for my basement renovation. As much as I'd like one of the steroid machines mentioned, I am unable to justify it for my personal use (and the ol lady wouldn't bite on the price..(grin)).
I went to the local Home Depot, to buy the Delta or DeWalt. I was told that they didn't stock them, wouldn't be getting any more. No one knew why. I called 3 others around my home, all w/the same story. The local Farm & Fleet had them but for $150.00 more than the Ridgid. As much as I wanted the others, I just didn't have the extra cash. I did buy the Ridgid. It seems to be decent but Im still setting it up. Wont really get to play w/it til the weekend.

Best Regards....don t. - 9n180179

I've been using a 16" Makita for about 15 years. It works well.

One more vote for Dewalt. I have a band saw mill and saw my own lumber. I have run a lot of lumber through the dewalt and never had any problems. Blades are easy to set and has plenty of power.

before the new small planners came out. I bought a Woodmaster 12", 5hp motor, variable feed motor, drum sander and moulding shaft. Like it real well, makes nice mouldings, sands nice also. I wanted a moulding planer. It is heavy and takes up room. Now I probably would buy one of the table top models if all I wanted to do was plane.

This is the heart of the matter. What do you want to do? I've used bench top planers but my 4500 lb. 24" behemoth gets a lot of work from the local contractors who don't want to wait for their tiny machines to do a lot of stock removal. Big tool for a big job, little tool for a little job.

Mine sure isn't portable!

Got a Delta 12" and like it real well. Easy blade changes and the blades are reversable. Makes a nice smooth surface!

I have the Ridgid, which came with a stand and extra set of reversable knives. THe Indi Cut is quite accurate and if you keep the feed in and output waxed, it will give a excellent plane.

I have a Dewalt and Ilike it.It has the anti-snipe feature which is good and generally the lumber goes thru without sticking too much. Some of the other planers I've used had lumber sticking in them quite a bit.

I also have a DeWalt with the locking head (anti-snipe) and am well pleased.
