Welding hood

just have a mig and was looking for a new hood, am looking at the self darkening one, don't do a whole lot of welding but it would be nice to have one, what would you suggest, have seen them from 70.00 and up. thanks Don

santa brought me a Harbor Freight Auto/Darkening hood last year... both me and welding expert/mentor have been impressed with it ('sept his head is too small and I have to keep readjusting it :-))

I caught it on sale for 69.00... check their website... it's very sensitive... grinder sparks will darken it. It's a inexpensive entry hood... solar powered so no batteries... single shade with no adjustment ( #10) but I mainly do MIG and it's just right for that... it's improved my welding (especially starting point) 100%.

I replaced my old Speedglass with a Hobart Hood about a year ago. The Speedglass was the nicer helmet, but I needed a replacement on a Sunday, and TSC just happened to have the Hobarts in stock. It works just fine, and is nice and light. Solar powered. I would recommend that you try one out.

Get an auto-darking one. Try this. Got to a welding supply place. Put on the helment and lite a cig. lighter in front of the lense. You'll be impressed. It will sure make for some nicer welds.
