To make a short story long, I was reading about all the great gift ideas you all had for your spouses for Christmas and I must say my wife was really surprised by the Ford 801D tractor I got her for Christmas. She jumped up and down more than several times, and she is still completely speechless (hasn't said a word to me since and she's never been a quiet woman ;>). So since that was such a hit I decided to get her a welder for her upcomming birthday in a couple of days. The best I could afford was a Lincoln weld pak 100. I personally love using the 6011 rod with my stick welder since it isn't fussy about some of the 'junk' stuff I weld on. Not knowing anything about wire welders, I wondered what wire (.035 innershield) has the same properties as the 6011. I read a previous post saying E71T-1 was a good general purpose wire but required gas shielding. From reading the info on the Lincoln web site it seems that E71T-11 is supposed to be the general purpose do anything innershield wire and that is what is included with the welder, but is there a better one for what is sometimes a hurry up job on rusty, dirty metal? After all, I want her to have the best I can afford ;).

Thanks in advance,
Bob

wire feed will not weld rusty metal. you need new metal, or grind the old till it is clean. wire brush is usually not enough, i grind it till VERY clean. have noted new sheet metal and angle iron have a oily surface or blue blush on them. If you run a grinder over new metal to get off the "coating" it will improve the weld 100%. if the metal is rusty, it will not even hold a good arc, just sputter and spit.

I forgot to ask one last question above - from reading here I understand the E is electrical, the 7 is 70,000, 1 is all position, and T is tubular wire - but I don't understand the differences between an E71T-1 and E71T-11 - what are the 1 and 11 for?

thanks again in advance,
Bob

lincoln product nr-211-mp is e71-t11. it is a all position general fabrication wire for 12 ga. thru 1/2". the t11 rating is a code to tell what is in the flux. wire with the code t-2, t-3, t-10, and t-gs is intended for single pass welds only. have run some 211-mp and really liked it. as an all position wire this would be a good substitute for a 6011. however, make sure your weld area is clean before starting (remove any paint, rust, etc.). wade
