I'm looking at the Northern hot water/steam washer that does 3.5 gpm and 2000 psi. It's $2000 plus $200 shipping to MA. It would be to clean equipment and stuff around the Cranberry farm, my brother's rv, trucks, etc. The gpm sounds fine, but what do you people think of 2000 psi? Thanks.

My dear old dad purchased one at sale last summer and he called me to to help pick it up.After telling him how crazzy he was for even bidding on this old thing, we got it home and hooked it up and steamed my backhoe down.I was dumb founded none the less.He spent $40.00

You might consider buying a unit with higher pressure and no heat. I've got a unit that will crank out 3500 PSI at about 4 GPM---no heated water. It will pretty much remove any grime/grease/dirt that I've used it on. Unless you're doing really dirty equipment (mining equipment, construction equipment), I'm not sure the heat feature (which consumes some form of energy, and can malfunction) justifies the extra cost. Something to think about.

The biggest advantage I've experianced with steam versus just pressure is it leaves no oil residue that needs to be removed before painting. Just my opinion

That price does sound a little high, have you considered buying a good used one? You can try your local tool rental store they sometimes sell off the older stuff when they upgrade. I would think that this is a good time of the year to buy one from them, I'm pretty sure the rental equipment shows are coming very soon and thats when they get a lot of their new stuff and you won't have to pay all that shipping.

Does anyone use the old kerosene burning steam cleaners? They are available at auctions for $25 to several hundred dollars.
The water tank is usually rusted thru. I have aquired two and hope to make one that works by replacing the rusted tank with a stainless steel tank from a swimming pool. The tank was a filter using diatomatious earth.

Got one rated at 2200 psi and 3.5gpm, powered by a 5.5hp Honda. Is very good. I'm satisfied with it's performance. Have tried other units with lesser ratings, and am not impressed. Mine gets used for cleaning dropping pans in the bunny barn, washing siding, stripping paint, cleaning machinery, and washing cars. We used it to clean up a 50 year old tractor this fall, and it took almost all the grease, grime and dirt off as well as loose paint. About the worst is the cars - sometimes I still have to resort to a bucket of soap water and a rag! Paid around $650 at Sam's club a bout three years back. The Northern price seems a little high.

It's hot water/steam. That adds a LOT to the price.

Even more to the cleaning ability. Nothing cleans like steam. I've been looking at the same unit. If you purchase it, give us some feedback.
