I have a l HP split phase motor on a large 20 inch Cinni drill press. During cold weather the starting phase does't want to kick out sometimes. My question is if I continue to run the motor when this happens will this burn the motor up?. The drillpress is in an unheated shed.

Robert - Running a split phase motor with the start winding constantly energized may either trip the branch circuit breaker after a short while, or else will burn out the motor start winding.

If the centrifugal start switch won't trip in cold weather, you can probably correct it by cleaning centrifugal mechanism, then lubing with it with a touch of light oil.

Go light on the oil. We've had long term trouble with all oil/grease exposed to air in electrical equipment. The motion is brief/light enough that a dry centrifical switch etc is more reliable.
