I bought an old MIG welder at a "bargain" but
I need a parts/user manual.
It is made by "Chicago Electric Power Tools"
model "CEMIG 160"

I have searched the internet and cannot find that company. Does anyone know if they are still in business? If so, where are they?

Thanks

Curt

Hi Curt,

Bought one of these 15 yrs ago. Never cared for them, after about 6 mo bought a Miller. I don't have a spool gun but do have a complete unit that works (only used about 6 hrs). Email me an offer.

If you can go to Harbor freight, look at current welders. If you find a model close to yours contact HF and ask for a manual. I doubt if any brand name guns will fit HF brand. Spool guns cost big $$$. Sounds like it's 160 amp. Does it have a cover gas fitting/hose? If so you need a tank & regulator. It should have at least 4 heat positions and a wire feed control. Start with lowest heat and medium feed.
Use 1/16" scrap and change feed till you get a frying pan sizzle sound. Too much feed will push gun away from the work, too little will make popping sounds...
Good luck with your new toy.

The local community college just started a welding class,: four hours sat mornings and 4 hours sun mornings. Being over 65, I get to enroll for free -
(one advantage to old age and creaking bones!!!)
I have been to two classes now and the instructor
let me start with MIG. Man that beats stick welding to death!!! Just laying beads on scrap steel so far. I hope to get on some stainless and
aluminum pretty soon.

I got a tank of argon and regulator with this CEMIG 160. As soon as I know a little more, I'll
load some wire in it and see if I can get it going.

If it doesn't work, I think I'll talk to the Miller people!!!

Hi curt,

Most all the internal stuff is generic. Some of the more expensive machines have prioritory controls but I don't think you'll find that with this machine. If the gun is worn out I would change to Tweco if you needed a new one as Tweco is very well made and cheap to buy parts for every where. Most Mig machines are very simular orperated so that may help.

Thanks T_Bone

Did find out that Harbor Freight sells that brand
but they do not recognize my model.
Am interested getting a spool gun - am told they are better for welding stainless and aluminum.
I have some experience with stick welders, want to try MIG on stainless and aluminum.

Curt
