I am trying to fix a hub with worn out internal splines. I would like to find a piece of spline stock,(7"long) bore the hub out on a lathe and weld in a new splined insert. It is 2.5" resessed,(female) 6 spline. I can get 10 and 16 spline can't find 6. Anyone know of a supplier that handles this? I tried a few machine shops and no one cuts internal splines localy. Thanks for any input, Andy

ggmfg.com has any thing needed for the job. Some times they will give you a local dealer. Make sure the pin hole and locking groove are done already, these shafts are hard.

I can't get a site to come up with 'ggmfg.com' as in 'page not found", "page does not exist". Is 'ggmfg' correct?

I'm not sure of the diameter you want but I think a lot of tractor ptos are 6 spline, and you can get female drive shaft parts to match. Try a farm store, dealer or tractor graveyard.

If all else fails get a broach cutter and make one. You can get a machine shop to make you the right size cutter.

A broach is very expensive to have made. Basically a broach is similar to a thread tap but instead of twisting it in, you get a large press and push (or pull) the broach through. The broach has teeth that start shallow at one end and are the finished spline size at the other with intermeadiate size teeth in between. Each tooth cuts out a sliver of metal as it is pushed through.
Larger broaches can cost up to 18-20 thousand if you get into larger sizes.
