Barn moving cost

Anyone out there ever moved a wooden barn from one locale to another?

I'm looking at a 50x50 A-frame barn that I can basically get for free. It would probably need to be taken apart and put back up on my farm.

Has anyone ever done this? What are the typical costs?

Is it even worth it?

I'm in southern Iowa and would appreciate leads on local barn movers.

Thats a good size. What kinda height? I have done a couple smaller ones. Complete dissasemble and reconstruct. But that was for my own use. I can't really give you a figure, but in my case - 20x30 pole, with trusses. Due to location (narrow access) it had to be dissembled. Spent roughly 45 hours removing and loading. 35 unpacking and reconstructing. An additional 300 in materials to complete. If hired it would have been 80 hours at $25, say 2 grand? Remember the labor is going to be at least double the cost of new.

I saw your post and wondered how it turned out. I find myself in a similar circumstance in that while looking for salvaged windows for a reproducion carriage house, i found the exact (original) structure available for relocation or salvage. It's breaking my heart to think that as I am trying to replicate this, it's being torn down! Unfortunately, like your situation, it's hundreds of miles away. Any useful information would really really be appreciated! Jill
