I have a Remington "bullit" type kerosene heater. I have seen a lot of discussion here about using Kerosene in place of diesel or vice versa. Can you use diesel in these type of kerosene heaters safely and without ruining heater?

I have used diesel in my torpedo. Works fine just stinks a little bit more than kerosene. Where are you guys at anyway. Kerosene is 1.49 here and diesel is just a little cheaper, unless I get the farm stuff and it stinks quite a bit more than standard road diesel. Higher sulfer content I guess.

Northern Calif. Kero is $2.15/gal at the gas station, #2diesel is $1.65. Central Calif. diesel is $1.49...but the weather is nice.

I have a 35,000 BTU Redi-Heat, and according to my owner's manual, Diesel is an acceptable fuel. I have never noticed any difference in odor, and it's definitely cheaper to run, particularly if you use off-road diesel.

I do it all the time and I haven't had a problem. No smoke and a little smell but no worst than it was with Kerosene at three times the price!

According to the directions you can. I never have since people I have talked to say the diesel or fuel oil stinks worse than kero. Will be interested to see what others have done.

I just ran out or Kero in my torpedo, I think I'll try a few gal of diesel. Certanly cheaper.
Kero = $1.80/gal in Michigan
