I,ve got an old Stanley drill and the switch is going bad.Anybody know how to get ahold of Stanley tools,or a source of parts for old electrical stuff? This drill is quite old, before the days of plastic.Really heavy duty,I hate to give up on it just becacse of the trigger switch.

Dave...I had a trigger switch go bad in my early 1970s vintage Wards radial saw. Somebody finally suggested I check a local power tools retailer's repair department. The guy who mans the counter was not particularly courteous nor seemed literate, but when I showed him the bad switch, he disappeared into the shelves mumbling something about Porter-Cable, and came back out with a trigger switch for a Porter-Cable power tool of some sort that almost looked like a twin. It was plastic instead of steel, and I had to shave a hair off a couple corners that were square instead of rounded, but otherwise, it worked like the original. Even had the button that you push to lock the switch on!

Bottomline, if you have a power tool repair place, don't ignore them just because your tool is obsolete. Those guys - especially the older "gentlemen" - deal with that stuff all the time and can often substitute. I don't know where you are located, but you don't have to live in the city to find good help - in fact, probably less likely to find it there. :)

If you can find a long time"real" hardware store, check around the,nut/bolt/washer drawer display for similar electrical parts drawers or in electric aisle.Hardware stores used to carry replacement trigger etc switches for power tools before they became"everything in the world you might ever even think about buying someday stores".
