Keep in mind that a lot of Mexicans that were working in factories for $1.30 an hour that U.S. companies moved to Mexico are now out of work because those same plants are now being moved to China where workers are being paid 30 cents per hour.

First year teacher with a 4 year degree in the district I work for only makes a couple dollars more per hour and they only get 185 days work (and pay) in a year.

I'd do it for $9/hr. I know what it's like to be out of work and unable to collect unemployment. You do what you have to do to make it, even if that means two or three jobs. Been there, done that.

Like the others said, that would be a fabulous entry-level job for someone out of high school. My first job out of college paid barely half that!

chances are they know there are alot of people looking for work. I wish i had it. my unemployment ran out 2 weeks ago, its kinda rough with no money coming in. Congress gave them self a raise then adjourned before worring about people with no job. My car gets repo'ed in a month if i cant find work. Glad its winter so my power cant get shut off. I have sent out 230 resumes since march. Economy has not been this bad since G. Bush was pres, wait, isnt he now.

He is only asking for 2 month experiance and a high school equivalent. That speaks out loud and clear that he wants a young guy that he intends to train and pay 9 bucks an hour while getting this training. This looks like a great opportuninty for a young guy to get started and learn some worthwhile skills that will increase his bargaining power for better pay down the road. NO ONE is worth big bucks starting out without skills. If he had to pay top dollar to train people he probably wouldnt. He would insist on qualified exeperiance only and young guys wouldnt get the chance to learn.

I agree. Looks like it would be a pretty good opportunity to learn a bunch of skills without having to go to college first. Also a good opportunity to determine if that's the kind of thing you really want to be trained for. I don't imagine the cost of living is to outrageous up there, and although you're certainly not going to get rich doing it, it would probably be an interesting job. Too many people nowdays think that a college-education is the automatic ticket to a high-paying job and wouldn't stoop to the level of a job like this - most of them end up waiting tables while they wait for their dream job to come find them.

this sounds like a job here at our steel plant called a "maintenance utility man". Has to pass a proficiency test in Electrical controls, Hydraulics, Welding, Pipefitting and Mechanical. they do everything that is associated with Steel Mill maintenance. That jobs pays in the range of 25-35 bucks an hour with full benefits and overtime...paid holidays etc.. $9 an hour is a labor rate here... that seems like lots of knowledge for low pay to me... McDonalds pays around 6 just to say " 'ya want fries with that ?"

Even entry level positions at our plant require a college degree now. The educated kids starting work here are starting out at $12-14 an hour (with benefits). Am telling my 2 teens to get a college degree to get a better (or any) job. It's not like it used to be. Worked at a feed mill in the early 80's for $5/hour and farmed, too!

Sounds like the typical ag-related job here in rural Minnesota, lots of folks working for about that in elevators, seed plants, machinery dealers, & the like, you end up doing seasonal 'go-fer' jobs so the job description gets a little long, but thousands are doing that for that amount out here in rural Minnesota...

I would apply for this position if I needed a job, this position actually isn't asking a whole lot on the experience side or the schooling side. Just my opinion

That is getting very common since the downturn of the economy! Larger Job pool to choose from means better workers for less pay because they are desperate and some employers know this.
Others are just cheap! Alot of places are starting entry level workers at 2 dollars an hour less than I was started at 15 years ago.
Usually for less benefits. I hate to see adds that they must have own tools or vehicle + 5 years experience For even $12 and hour is rediculous. Oh! Bring your college degree with you.

Can't believe they'd find anyone worth their salt for that kind of money!....and then they want them to be skilled at everything.

If I was just starting out I would jump at $9.00 per hr. with only asking for 2 mo experience. Know a lot of college grads not starting out at any more.

you aint kiddin.

The problem with folks nowadays is they want their kiddoes to start out as the top dollar man on any job- anywhere with no experience and most of the kids nowadays don't have a lick of common sense either.

I think it's more than a fair job offer for an inexperienced young feller.

With the way our national economy is headed south the same fellers that are griping and giving the smart alec answers about this job and money may be back stabbing the kids to get the job before it's all over.
