I have a brand new S-K beam style torque wrench not a clicker type it goes to 150 foot lbs. My question is this is the round beam made of spring steel? How else could it flex so much I don't see how else it could work. Thanks. Richard.

I have had a beam type for years, and recently sprung for a clicker, they're easier to use! as for accuracy, I'll yield to the experts:

Yes you have to really watch the scale when using a beam type and with a clicker you just stop when it clicks. Thanks for the followup. Richard.

Richard ,

It is a form of spring steel, and will always be in calibraton .I have several , when checked on calibrator they are always right , not so with clickers . Most click type are 10 to 15 pounds light when checked , I have several click type. When building engines I use the beam type. george

Thanks for the information I recall reading on this forum before that they are more accurate I am glad that I did not get a clicker type. Richard.

I use my beam wrench to recalibrate my clickers. Just hook them together with a socket and check the beam wrench for the reading when the clicker clicks. I have several beams and several clickers. The beams have read the same for 20+years! The clickers need regular adjustment, altho not as much as they get older. Good Luck,Mike

Thanks for the information I like to hear that. It sounds like the beam type is the most reliable. Richard.
