Help,I have an old MF industrial with a 200 loader. The booms have and have had many cracks and old welds. The old welds are arc and look very good, but cracks have developed along the weldments and the origional steel. I suspect that the origional steel may be high carbon and the steel is being over hardend in the heat effected zone. What is the best way to deal with this when I reweld the cracks? I can use MIG-75/25 gas, stick arc or gas. Which is best for high carbon steel? Should I use the torch to anneal the weldments after I weld, if I use an arc process? Do i need to preheat? HELP Have a great holiday season and a good new year! Thank You, Mike P.S. I hope you are feeling better. Take Care, Mike

Hi T-BONE, I forgot to mention that the booms on a 200 are boxed, welded heavy sheet metal/thin plate. Thats why I thought of you, but all comments are very welcomed. Thanks again, Mike

A suggestion to the posters. Altough I do enjoy in sharing what I've leaned, there's so much more to learn if all will participate in answering the questions as there are some very talanted people here that post. As they say, there's more than one way to skin the cat. When you specificly ask any one person a question, you are limiting your answers just to my respones if no one else will join in and most of the time no one will respond if the question is posed just to one person wheather it be to me or to someone else. Ohh and if you think I have all the answers your wrong, I learn something new here everyday.

Sorry Mike it'll be a few more days until I can answer your questions, the pain thing is back and I can't think! You might want to repost the question.
