Followup to post of 12/13/02. Didn't get a satisfactory response from customer service, so I wrote a letter to Costco (like Sam's Club) where I bought the unit. This afternoon I got a phone call from headquarters assuring me that their washer is a quality machine and the breakdown should not have happened. They are shipping me a complete new unit on Monday at No Charge. Can't complain about that.

Running one of the Wobble pumps without water / or rather letting air hit one will destroy it very quickly.

I bought a brand new (returned) unit from Lowes for $250. It was a 2500 psi with 5.5 Honda, and it came with a new warranty. I figured I couldn't go too wrong because the engine was worth that. I took it home and found the pump had a broken piston and called about the warranty. They rebuilt it and I had the unit back in my hands approx. 2 months later. It worked great for about 2 hours and broke another piston. Water hose kinked on me and the pump started hammering before I could unkink the hose it was history. I took the pump apart and noticed it uses water pressure to keep the pistons pushed against the Axial Cam, if you get air or starve it for water, the piston starts floating - Like floating the valves on an engine due to being over-reved.

Here was the solution, I bought a brand new General Pump for $150 on the internet, bolted it up, and have not ever had a minutes worth of trouble. So, for $400 I now have a $900 pressure washer 2500# @ 3.0gpm

You guys have got me wondering now. I bought one this summer, a 3000psi unit. i use it to wash my trucks and tractor and power washed the deck and so far so good. No problems yet.I did have to take the wand back because it leaked from day one and they gave me a better new that rotates.Keeping my fingers crossed. Later,Terry

in my opinion they are junk . i had bought one about 2 years ago and just before the warrenty ran out it started leaking bad internally . called customer service and they gave me the name of local service co .after several days called to check on it and was told they were in the process discontinuing serviceing them because of problems getting paid by karcher . went to pick it up and they had a whole pile of them for repair . repairmen had low opinion of them .it still had short time on warrenty and took it back to LOWES and explained the situation .they replaced it with a new one .now the new one has the same problem .neither of them had more than estimated 8-10 hours on them . took the pump a part and nearly everything is plastic except the pistons . valves (plastic ) are shot and stuck.i suspect the outlet valves stuck and over pressured the pump and caused the failure .the one i have is the 1300 /1400 ? one .

Hello Bill, Did you use the pick-up tube to inject any cleaning fluids into the sprayer? I know someone who mixed TSP with bleach in a 2 gal. bucket. Then he fed that through the power washer via the pick-up tube.
The TSP was too abrassive and scored the inards
badly. The results were similar to what you described. Ours must be considerably older than yours. We don't store it out in the shop in the winter. They will bust up inside if they freeze. Sorry to read that you had trouble with yours. Where in Va. are you? Mike D.

only used deck wash and degreaser through the pickup tube ...both are pressure washer cleaners .don't believe the fluids from the pickup tube go through the pump. think they are siphoned into the system after the pump . washer was stored from freezing . if you saw the inside of the pump i think you would understand . front royal va

Wow, talk about customer service! I'm glad to hear your results. For those naysayers earlier- we got a Karcher and use it on the farm. It is lightweight to be sure, however, it has never failed us in 7 years of frequent use.
