I have a handheld plastic tachometer. It is in a plastic pouch with Thechumseh on it. It was made in West Germany, and everything on it is in German. My wife only knows some of the words she heard her mother, grandmother and great grandmother, and a lot were swear words anyway. The tachometer works by placing it against the engine or case, and turning a knob which extends a wire, when the wire stops vibrating you remove the tachometer and read the guage. You shpould be able to buy ine from a lawn mower shop that sells Techumseh parts.

If you want get get creative a speedometer, any speedometer (unless it's marked otherwise on the face), is calibrated to 1000 revs per mile SO you could.....well, you get the picture, right?

Harbor Freight had one in a catalog a few months ago for about $39, I think???? You never know about that stuff. Some of it's good, some junk.

I have a round hand held Stewart Warner that my father bought back in the early 50's, except for replacing the rubber tip on the business end of the spindle a couple of times, it has had nothing done to it. About once or twice a year it needs a drop of light oil to lubricate the spindle shaft. I always put it back in it's case when finished using it, but check 1000's of combine vylinders, tractor p.t.o, shaft speeds etc. while he was with JD. and I use it occasionaly now, it is very accurate and very easy to use, think places like Grainger and McMaster-Carr sell them. I highly reccomend it, wew checked all combine cylinder sspeeds wirh it when setting up combines for JD 11A's 12A's 25's 30's and an occasional IH or AC combine and never had a problem with this unit.

Check with suppliers to machine shops, tractor dealers, etc. Lufkin is one brand.
