I have a five horse 30 gallon compressor. it only draws 15 amps so i know it is not a five horse.. It is a single stage twin cylinder pump. How long should it take to take the tank from o to 125? It takes mine about 5 minutes,Is this about normal? And how much noise is normal from the head area? Sounds like the reed valves or something. It has a three year warranty and is under three years old.. so if it is not acting normal i will take it in and see. Thanks for the commeents..

Later Chris Smith..

I have the 6.25 30 gallon. It is now a year old and the compressor is worn out. I don't use it that much and feel I got taken. Anyway, this is oil less and I wish I had spent the extra money for the twin cylinder oil sump. Watch what you buy and make sure it has a warranty. Keep your receipt even if you don't think you will need it.

I have a CH 3.5 hp compressor. the running current on it is about 15 or 16 amps @ 120 V. The fill time on yours sounds about right for a compressor of this size. I run it on a 20 amp breaker and it doesn't trip on startup. It is capable of rewiring to 220 V and I am going to do that.

15 (amps)X 120 (volts) / 740 (watts comsumed by each unit of HP) = 2.43 hp, sounds like in the ral world it would be a 2.5 HP

Campbell Hausfeld is cheap stuff. The sell it at Wal-Mart remember. I have one of their 12v portable compressors and its very loud.
I took it apart and coated every mating surface between the metal of the compressor and the plastic of the case with RTV and then glued it back together. It makes WAY less noise now, but is still pretty loud. When I buy a new compressor you can bet your butt it won't be a CH.

Yes some CH models are sold at WallyWorld,Kmart etc.CH makes a full line of compressors, from inexpensive wear-out/throwaway models up to some very decent rebuildable light commercial models.I have owned a couple of their Cast Iron models and have been quite satisfield with their cost/performance factor.

I stand corrected sir!
I had only known about the cheap stuff. Notice though I held my tounge and only said "cheap stuff".

Actually I thought about this thread yesterday when I was looking at a 12v compressor at the dollar store. It was so bad it made me CH look terrific.
Word to the wise, never buy a compressor that weighs less than a pound.

5 min from 0-125 does not sound unreasonable for a smaller hp unit.My CH has always been a little noisier than some.Did noise increase recently? Is oil level correct and are you using compressor oil?Check for loose pulley/belt first(thats free!)If still concerned w/noise,you could have some carbon buildup on the heads/valves.It's a fairly simple job to pull and clean head, check w/dealer for kit.

If it's that new, tags on motor and compressor should still be readable.15A on 120 sure isn't 5hp.I've got a full 2hpHD portable that pulls 20+ staring on 120.Newer motor rating are misleading, they seem to hang 2-3 capacitators on em and double the rating. The motor on my newer CH alledged 6/80 is only about 2/3 the physical size of the HD 2hp???

Chris,Thats probally a real 1.5 HP motor.I think with that cfm,and a 30 gal tank the time sounds about right. My friend has one,but only a 20 gal tank.It takes a while to fill. His was brand new also. They just rate compressers off the wall on hp.
