I am having difficulty finding an economically-priced helicoil/thread saver kit for an 18 mm spark plug hole. 14 mm ones are readily available for around $30, more or less. 18 mm ones are few and far between and run $130 or more. The 18 mm size seems to have more pieces, but I have only one hole to repair. Machine shops have been of little help so far. Any suggestions?

go to toolsource.com and look under KD tools or Heli coil. The Heli coil kit is around 90 but KD has a thread chaser for around 5. Hope the chaser is all you need.I have the KD reamer/tapper in 14mm and like it better than heli coil.Sorry I don't have the 18mm or I would let you use it. Have you tried your local tractor repair shop? I would think they would have the tool.

glad to see the toolsoure.com name somewhere. I set their servers up in Ellicotville N.Y. several years ago. moved them to the new owners office a year later after the big dot com fallout. nice people.

that's what I had to have for a Wisconsin. I got a complete kit at NAPA for $34.

Thanks, but your link didn't take me to the exact place -- gave a list of everything they sell. What I found was 14 mm kit for about $69, 18 mm kit for $149. The insert tool alone is $61, package of 6 inserts is $11, I couldn't find the tap separately. So the big bucks are the tap and insert tool. Am I missing something? These were Belkamp, maybe yours is a different brand?

mine is the cheapy model but I don't remember the name.

I thought I saw the cheapo on their page. My mistake I'll go look again and see if the part number for the cheapy was there.

Their link did'nt come in right.
The cheapest I found on their on-line catalog was $134. I know for sure I only paid $34 for this one in baling season.

They either made a bad mistake when I bought mine or our local store has a different brand available.

Wish I had a NAPA dealer like that. They have more stuff than anyone else, but they are also the highest priced place in town. After calling 4 machine shops got referred to a guy that works on motorcycles, race cars, etc. Has his own machine shop, also has the helicoil and will put it in for me. Thanks!
