I just got a new mig welder. When I am welding the wire keeps pushing the torch. I have tried every thing I can think of. I changer wire speed, changed heat settings, nothing has helped. I am running .025 wire with gas I thought it should weld smooth. Can anyone give me a welding lesson Thanks

Sounds like bad ground, rusty or painted metal you are trying to weld, bad connection someplace.Try welding the ground to the work, clean the metal you are trying to weld.Wire speed could be too high.If it starts welding when you weld the ground to the work, adjust the wire feed untill it sounds like frying bacon.Maybe you should try a different piece of scrap metal first to practice on,something fairly thick so you can use the highest setting for heat, then come down for thinner metal.Make sure all your connections are tight from the welder to the tip.

You could have a gas leak I had the same problem after trying 3 spools and many other things in a 2 year period it ended up being a leaky hose where the hose connects to the torch I whose getting ready to sell it Rod MI

What make and model welder? What gas?

On the surface it sounds like wire speed is too high for amperage used. With that said I had a "Harbor Freight Special" that always did that. Got a name brand (Miller, but I've use Lincon and Hobart with sucess also) and never had the problem since. Got it out the other day (been 15 years) and it still does it. Checked the output, supposed to be 70vDC at variable amps and was only pushing 41vDC at all amp settings.

Sometimes gas will contribute to this problem. If I forget and leave an Argon tank on the MIG (instead of a 75/25) it wants to push.

If the wire is pushing the torch tip away it could be a couple things.
Even if you have a leak and low gas it would still burn the wire, only splatter alot. It is very important that what your welding is obsolutely clean shiney metal....no scale or rust. Migs hate rusty metal. Also your ground connection must be good metal to clamp sold contact, a loose ground clamp to dirty metal will cause wire push and no arc intermitingly. I have always welded a 3/8 bolt on a pair of visegrips on every mig I've had for a ground clamp.I have found one of the biggest problems with small migs is the ground clamp is to weak to clamp a good contact and caused me much grief. Clean metal & good ground key to successful welding I have found.Grind the areas to be welded with a disc grinder I bet you'll have better success..... ...have fun, Practice makes perfection when it comes to welding.
