Another good brand that is reasonable in price is the Coleman air compressors. Have had good service with them.

Check the want ads in the paper and see if a commercial shop is going out of business, or maybe some older guy (or his widow) is getting rid of tools, and machinery. There's plenty of it out there! Look around before you buy and stay with brand names. Watch out for auctions, because you usually can't run the machinery to test it. I bought a year 2000, 80 gal. 24 cu ft/min. compressor from a shop closing for $700. It sold new for about $1900. It was still connected to power when I took it out. The $150 filter was included. I was offered a 10" commercial, name brand, wet band saw for another $350, but I didn't want to sleep on the couch, so I passed on it.

I agree, the Campbell Hausfields are probably the best price/quality buy.

My recomendation is to buy one with a seperate motor and compressor type of unit wherever it is made. I would suspect that most of the "American Made " compressors at least have chinese components in them now-a-days. Seems most things do. I have a couple of chinese bench grinders and a few other chinese tools and they seem ok. Not sure I would want to use them for production use though. I think many of the welders are now chinese made and re-branded with american names.
