Does anyone know of a computer program that will print a template to wrap around a pipe to cut a saddle. I can draw one in 3d in autocad at any angle I want but I have yet to figure out how to print it out flat on paper so I can cut it out and wrap it around the pipe for a template.

Terry, used to work with Release 12, 13. Make/rotate to the 'view' you want, I think that is what they called it. save it, Then go into paperspace, insert the view, print.

I don't work for these guys. I picked these up from the local welding shop here in town. I used them at work and I find them easier to use than the tool that wraps around the pipe. They are made out of some pretty durable material and are not very expensive.

Hi Terry,

Flip your auto cad vertical (or 90*) then print it as it'll print as several pages. Then line up the pages.
You can also layout the template in real time from your autocad program. Divide the circumstance into 18 equal segments on the pipe. From a base line then measure up to each cutline on each of the segments.

There is a pipe fitter handbook (also a pipe fitter square) that gives you a mathematical way to calculate each segment rise from a base line.

There is a pipe wrap around, usually sold at welding shops, that you can also use to layout T's, 90's, Y's, etc:

Thanks Scott and T_Bone for the information. I will work with the autocad a little more. It is a very powerful program but you don't just sit down and learn it in an hour or two. I would like to be able to print out a paper template to join any two size pipes at any angle I choose. I don't work with pipe that much but the challenge is to be able to do it if I want to.

Get yourself a bunch of ring gaskets, the type used on pipe flanges find the size diameter you need lay it on the pipe mark and cut the hole.

I usually fit the end of the pipe I'm sticking on, mark around it and cut the hole inside the line.
