Hi All,

After two years I thought I'd dig out the new power tools I bought and use them :)

The Ryobi BHG825 8", 3/4hp, 3.1amp, bench grinder is an ok machine. Turns at 3400rpm, comes with a 36 and 60grit 5/8" arbor wheels and a tool rest with a drill bit "V" cut into the right hand rest. That works very well for sharpening drill bits. The longer the bit the easier it is to sharpen. I won't be buying a drill doctor after all. HD had the grinder for $60 on sale. Once at rpm theres very little viberation and I think whats there is caused by the 36grit wheel being out of balanced. I'll take that off and put on a sanding disc as thats what I bought it for. I wish now I would have bought two of them. I really didn't think they would be that good of quality tho.

The Millwaukee 14" chop saw is evrything I expected from my Millwaukee tools, great quality. 1.5amp, 1" arbor, max 3.75"od pipe, 5x5 tube. Don't try this at home kids, as I mounted two Norton blades on the arbor at the same time to make a special 1/4" wide cut in 3/4" plate. Worked like a dream although the cut is 5/16" wide it'll work this time. It didn't even bog the motor down and that suprised me as I questioned the 1.5amp motor rating when I bought it.

Were you trying to make a rabbet or a slot(all the way through) cut with your double blade cut?

It was a 1-1/4" deep X 1/4" wide slot on 3/4" plate.

Ideas?

Hi T_Bone , You will never see me buy a drill doctor. About 8-10 years ago , A very experienced tool grinder showed me the in's and out's of sharpenning drill bits. I sharpen my own drill bits on a belt grinder. I'm going to guess ,the average bit takes me about 10 seconds.

Hi Scott,

My hands and eyes are not what they used to be so my bits were not coming out exactly in top condition. They would cut but not for very long. With a little help from the guide rest I'm back to making a sharp bit.

Why don't you write up a "how to" on sharpening drill bits. I think everyone would enjoy that :)
