This is all second hand info. from my friend who knows I've been looking for a used skid steer. He called to tell me of a Gehl 4400 a guy has for sale. The motor sounds good (unknown hrs.),oil press good, tires fair, the loader hydro. works but the drive hydro is out. Not knowing what a guy would find in there but my luck is not great so let's count out low drive oil. I have no idea as to what drives this thing and at what cost it could be repaired. He wants a $1000. What kind of a skid loader is Gehl's 4400? And if the drive hydro is shot am I better to just walk away? I'd use it(light duty) around the farm for clean up and pen work.

to rebuild a gehl hydro drive motor will cosy you about 1800. to 2200. you are better off to find a different machine. remember all the fillings that came out of the drive motor also went threw the pump and all of the controls on that machine. i work on them i see what happens. e- mail me if you are looking for a machine of that size, we have alot of them.

It's quite expensive to rebuild hydrostatic pumps and motors, but $1000 sounds reasonable enough even with a bad drive system, I'm not familiar with Gehl, Bobcat's are my game but pretty much all skid-steers work the same, I'd look for a mechanic in the area that would come out and look at it to see if he could pinpoint the problem and mabye get a price from him to fix it, Bobcats have a charge pump between the 2 drive pumps if this goes bad theres no drive whatsoever easy, inexpensive fix.
